Roztocze region
is situated in the south-eastern Poland and can be divided into three
parts: Western, Middle, and
Eastern (known also as
Southern). The landscape is dominated by forests, hills and beautiful
ravines. Near its centre lies
The Roztocze National Park, established in 1974.
Among 21 forest
complexes, found in this
park, the most valuable are the carpathian beech and fir
forests. There are also four
Landscape Parks in the region: The Krasnobrod
Landscape Park (wooded hills of
Middle Roztocze), The Szczebrzeszyn Landsape Park (with ravines of
Western Roztocze), The
Southern Roztocze Landscape Park (with hills, forests, and wooden
churches of Eastern
Roztocze), and The Solska Forest Landscape Park (with mostly pine
forests, and little waterfalls
in the valleys of two beautiful rivers: Tanew and Sopot).
A part of Roztocze lies on the Ukrainian side, and ends near to Lvov. There you can find Jaworowski National Park. The whole region is
special
from cultural
and
historical perspective: original renaissance old town in Zamosc,
multicultural Lvov, wooden churches, chapels,
synagogues, or even reminders of the prehistoric times
- tumuluses.
